Privacy

Last updated 12 October 2026.

d-scribe is a desktop app. There are no d-scribe servers and no accounts, and the app collects no usage data or crash reports. This page lists everything that leaves your PC.

Your recordings stay on your PC

Audio, transcripts, titles, notes and AI results are saved in %APPDATA%\d-scribe\recordings on your computer. Transcription runs on your computer too. You can open, move or delete these folders yourself.

Discord

d-scribe talks to the Discord app on your PC to find out which voice channel you're in, who is in it and who is speaking. To allow that, you sign in with Discord once (scopes rpc and identify). The sign-in token is stored on your PC so you don't have to sign in again. d-scribe doesn't post anything to Discord and doesn't read your messages.

Downloads and updates

The app connects to these places when it needs to:

  • GitHub, to check for d-scribe updates and to download the Whisper transcription engine
  • Hugging Face, when you download a speech recognition model

These requests contain no recordings or transcripts.

Optional features that send data elsewhere

  • Remote transcription. If you add a remote transcription service in Settings, audio of each turn is sent to the service you chose.
  • AI prompts. If you run an AI prompt on a transcript, the transcript is passed to the AI command you set up (for example Claude Code), which sends it to that AI provider.

Both are off until you set them up, and their own privacy terms apply.

Test access requests

You ask for access in the d-scribe Discord server, so your request is a normal Discord message, under Discord's privacy policy. Your Discord username is used only to add you as a tester of the d-scribe Discord app. To be removed as a tester, say so in the server or open an issue on GitHub.

Recording other people

You decide what to record. Let the people in the call know that you record, and check the rules where you and they live.
